Over the years I believed that it was more difficult for a Lutheran Baseball Player to be selected to the
All-Marion County Baseball Team than the IHSBCA 1A All-State Team. As a 1A school competing against some of the largest high schools in Indiana, it was a challenge to be voted to the team by the
Marion County baseball coaches.
When I first came to Lutheran, the common thing I heard was about a "Lutheran home run." Certainly the dimensions of our baseball diamond are pretty short. Up until 2005 there were very good players at Lutheran with good stats but faced a stigma about playing on the Lutheran diamond. I give credit to
Jared Broughton and Cory Emmons as the primary players who were able to create a new image for Lutheran Baseball. I remember well a home run Cory hit against Perry Meridian at Lutheran that went over the house in left field on the line. The Perry Meridian coaches just looked at me as I was in the third base coaches box. Jared played for the Indiana Bulls and helped make a name for Lutheran. He also hit some home runs that got people's attention. Home runs at Chatard and Heritage Christian stick out in my mind as key factors. Word got around that Lutheran was pretty good and then we had many players after Cory and Jared that solidified the knowledge that we had some very good players.
